{"id":2088,"date":"2020-05-15T14:47:16","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T14:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/news-events\/the-week-of-fight-against-homophobia-transphobia-and-biphobia-has-started\/"},"modified":"2023-04-26T07:51:02","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T07:51:02","slug":"the-week-of-fight-against-homophobia-transphobia-and-biphobia-has-started","status":"publish","type":"news_events","link":"https:\/\/pinkarmenia.org\/en\/news-events\/the-week-of-fight-against-homophobia-transphobia-and-biphobia-has-started\/","title":{"rendered":"The week of fight against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia has started"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 17th is the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), and we celebrate from May 14th to 21th the week to fight against hate, discrimination and fear.<\/p>\n<p>That day was first celebrated in 2005, and the date is set for May 17th, because on that exact day in 1990 the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from the list of &#8220;Mental disorders, behavioral disorders&#8221; section.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7584\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7584\" style=\"width: 170px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/lgbtreport2019_en.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/lgbtreport2019en.pdf noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7584\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/lgbtreport2019_en-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7584\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/lgbtreport2019en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As every year, this year as well we celebrate the IDAHOBIT week, which symbolizes the diversity of sexuality. We organize various events to raise awareness about the perils of discrimination based on sexual orientation, and we encourage people to be tolerant. We call on State bodies and authorities to adopt effective laws that will protect LGBT+ people\u2019s rights and strategies that will meet the needs of the LGBT+ community.<\/p>\n<p>Pink published the annual report on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/en\/publications\/reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cThe Human Rights Situation of LGBT People in Armenia\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year, as part of IDAHOBIT week, we also published a video about the annual report, where lawyer Hasmik Petrosyan and attorney Luiza Vardanyan summarize the violations committed against LGBT people during 2019, underline the need to protect human rights in LGBT people in Armenia, and they call to the media, local state bodies and international organizations to take effective steps to eliminate the atmosphere of intolerance and hatred.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u054f\u0561\u0580\u0565\u056f\u0561\u0576 \u0566\u0565\u056f\u0578\u0582\u0575\u0581\u056b \u0576\u0565\u0580\u056f\u0561\u0575\u0561\u0581\u0578\u0582\u0574\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m0A2qCB3tJI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On May 17th, a video about IDAHOBIT Day will be published, which presents the meaning of the day, the history of its creation, as tells about the need to celebrate it. The video will be published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/pinkarmenia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During IDAHOBIT week we also hold an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinkarmenia.org\/en\/news\/queerantine-online-exhibition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online contest-exhibition &#8220;Queerantine&#8221;<\/a>. For the contest, various photos, hand-drawn pictures, computer graphics and images were presented by different candidates, which reflected ideas of tolerance and non-discrimination, the themes of peaceful coexistence of people, the fight against homophobia and transphobia. Winners will be selected based on online voting, which is open from May 14th to 20th.
