Networks & coalitions
Pink Armenia is one of the founders of Human Rights House Yerevan, which is a member organization of the “Human Rights House Network”, an international human rights network. Human Rights House Yerevan unites 5 organizations under its roof. The goal of this network is to provide a safe, accessible and public space for activists, civil society organizations, movements, civic initiatives, and human rights defenders who are often targeted for their work.
In 2010, seven NGOs, including Pink, formed the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women, which was formed as a result of the tragic death of 20-year-old Zaruhi Petrosyan, a victim of domestic violence. The coalition was formed on the basis of the demands of the founding organizations: fair trial, prevention of similar cases, adoption of legislation that prevents domestic violence. The mission of the coalition is to jointly contribute to decreasing cases of gender-based violence against women and girls by strengthening prevention and protection mechanisms.
In 2017, Pink Armenia became a member of the Non-Discrimination and Equality Coalition, which brought together organizations and individuals whose goal is to promote and protect human rights and equality in Armenia, and to promote respect for equality and human dignity.
The organization is a member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism against HIV/AIDs, Tuberculosis and Malaria (CCM). The Country Coordinating Mechanism is central to the Global Fund activities and decision-making processes. The Mechanism includes representatives from the public and private sectors, representatives of the government, non-governmental and international organizations, academic institutions, as well as people living with these diseases. Previously, the organization was a member of the CCM from 2012-2015.The organization’s representative is also a member of several CCM working groups such as CCM Oversight Body and “Community Engagement, Human Rights and Gender Equality” working group.
The organization has been a member of ILGA World and ILGA-Europe since 2011. ILGA World is an umbrella organization representing more than 1,700 member organizations from over 160 countries and territories that has been fighting for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people across the globe since 1978. ILGA-Europe works for the equality and rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people (LGBTI) in Europe and Central Asia. ILGA-Europe works for a world in which each and every LGBTI person is free, equal and safe, through resourcing and connecting communities, driving political change, and amplifying voices, and strives to provide a solid foundation for activists and organizations, in particular at times of great adversity.
In 2014, Pink Armenia became a member of the Eastern European Coalition for LGBT + Equality, which is a network of LGBT+ organizations from the Eastern Partnership countries, and mainly focused on working with the community, aiming to improve the situation for LGBT+ people and problems in their countries and in the region. The Coalition works towards strengthening the potential of the LGBT+ movement, to improve legislation governing the situation of the LGBT+ community, to disseminate information on the situation of the LGBT+ community, and to support LGBT+ activists in the region.
Our organization is also a member of AIDS Action Europe, which was established in 2004 and has grown to be one of the largest networks focused on HIV in the region. The network reaches beyond the borders of the European Union and covers all 53 countries in Europe and Central Asia. Members of this network comprise a diversity of about 400 NGOs, national networks, AIDS service organizations, activists and community groups of people living with HIV.
Since 2013, Pink Armenia is part of UNITED for Intercultural Action, is the European network against nationalism, racism, fascism and in support of migrants, refugees and minorities. Together with over 560 supporter organisations all around Europe, ranging from local grassroots associations to national and international NGOs, UNITED coordinates campaigns, organises conferences, takes part in projects, produces publications and undertakes advocacy work to protest against discrimination and promote our shared vision for a diverse and inclusive society.
The Eurocentralasian Lesbian* Community – EL*C is a lesbian feminist and intersectional network. The EL*C started out of a self-organized space in 2016 and grew to being a network of hundreds of individual and organization members. EL*C main goal is to advocate for the multitude of needs surrounding the rights, the visibility and the well-being of lesbians throughout Europe and Central Asia. The community recognizes and addresses the necessity to create spaces where lesbians’ voices are heard, to include lesbian issues in all conversations and policies which shape our lives and to shine a light on lesbian visibility in impervious waters.
Pink has been a member of EL*C since 2023․
EL*C uses the word “lesbian” as a broad inclusive term, that includes all lesbian, bisexual and queer women (both cisgender and trans) and non-binary and intersex persons who feel connected to the lesbian identity and lesbian activism.
Other
Pink Armenia works with other international bodies to report on the human rights situation of LGBT people in Armenia, such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), EU-Armenia Human Rights Dialogue, European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), UN Special Rapporteurs, UN Independent Experts.
Pink has been a member of a number of networks, coalitions, which are no longer active:
Pink Armenia has been a member of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders from 2009-2015. It united 30 human rights NGOs from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The Network sought to facilitate the creation of a safer environment for human rights defenders in the South Caucasus and to strengthen their voices in the region and internationally.
Due to active cooperation with several organizations which are working on sexual health, HIV/AIDS and human rights protection issues in Armenia, Pink Armenia has conducted various public and social events in Yerevan and throughout the regions of Armenia. The strong ties between these partner organizations and individuals became the basis for the foundation of the Advocacy and Research Group on AIDS. The founders of this group were the following organizations: Pink, Real World Real People, Women’s Resource Center and Positive People’s Armenian Network. The group aimed to take joint actions for human rights protection and advocacy of vulnerable groups and bring public attention to the importance and urgency of sexual health issues.
