Demonstration: Demanding fair trial on attacks against LGBT people
On April 5, a demonstration was held in front of the RA Prosecutor General’s Office. Two attacks have happened in a month, based on people’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
The demonstrators, doubting that the law-enforcement bodies would justly investigate the cases, demanded a fair and effective investigation from the Prosecutor’s Office. Participants gave the Prosecutor General a letter signed by 30 organizations.
On February 27 of 2018, a transgender person was beaten in their apartment, which was burned down. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious bodily injuries and only four days later came to consciousness. About a month later, on April 1, a 35-year-old man stabbed a 15-year-old boy several times in the center of Yerevan, considering that the boy was homosexual. In both cases, the offenders were released, for a signature to not leave the country.
