Bluster Over the International Trans Women’s Beauty Contest
Recently, Armenia’s participation in Miss Star International trans women’s international beauty contest has been actively discussed in the Armenian media. This year’s contestant is Diana Ghzroyan, who has thousands of social media followers.
Unfortunately, the Armenian media turned this news into a topic of speculation and created a wave of hatred not only towards Diana, but also towards the trans community. Both the media, active users of social media and citizens pursuing political interests have made this news a topic of political interest and associated it with the country’s government.
We wish Diana patience and strength these days, as well as good luck at the competition in Brazil in December.
In Solidarity with Georgia
We express our deep concern over the recent actions of Georgia’s current government, which has been swiftly passing legislation that not only targets civil society and the LGBT+ community but also threatens the broader society, steering the country away from its democratic course.
With deep sorrow we note the fact of Russian authoritarian laws being reproduced in Georgia, which can set a dangerous precedent for the countries of Eastern Partnership.
We stand in solidarity with Georgian civil society, activists, and the LGBT+ community, supporting their fight against legislative changes that seek to violate the rights to the freedom of expression, association and other human rights, to silence the voices of the most vulnerable and to suppress the human rights of the citizens.
Bi Visibility Day
September 23 is Bi Visibility Day, a day to celebrate and uplift the bisexual community!
It’s a time for bisexual people and allies to come together, raise awareness, and tackle the challenges faced by the community. Such days are important to break down stereotypes, share stories, and spread knowledge to create a more inclusive world.
