This day is a reminder that many lesbians in Armenia face discrimination, stereotypes, family pressure, and fear of living openly.
Too often, their voices and experiences are ignored.
One lesbian participant interviewed for Visibility Day said:
“Society often does not believe in love between women. The stigma built up over many years begins to fade when there is visibility and when people do not treat us badly. Spaces and parties created for lesbians are also important when you are with people like yourself, you see yourself in them, you do not feel shame, and you feel sexual, attractive, and free.”
Every lesbian deserves safety, respect, and freedom.
