Event for specialists, parents, relatives and activists
In September, the annual “Supporting each other Vol. 2” event for allies of LGBT+ people took place within the framework of the “Strengthening movement through sustainable development” project, implemented with the financial support of the Swedish government. About 40 participants, including helping specialists, family members and relatives of LGBT+ individuals, activists, and organization staff, had the opportunity to meet in a connecting and self-care space.
The idea for a separate safe space for supporters and allies was discussed during Pink’s annual “Rainbow Forum”, aiming to create spaces of mutual support, cooperation, and solidarity for LGBT+ supporters.
The event, organized on September 6, was already the second one that gave parents, relatives, specialists, activists, and just people close to LGBT+ individuals the opportunity to share their inspiring stories with each other, as well as to hear about the challenges they face while interacting with a homophobic society. The space was filled with warmth, support, and solidarity.
Sometimes, supporters who stand by LGBT+ individuals also need support and care themselves. This space was also an opportunity for participants to simply disconnect from the world, take care of themselves, and gather strength and resources.
