A study on gender affirmation practices in Armenia presented
On October 28, a roundtable discussion titled “Legislative Gaps in Healthcare Services Provided to Transgender People, Gender Affirmation Practices, and Their Challenges” was held in Yerevan, organized by the “Pink” human rights defender NGO.
During the event, the results of the study “Healthcare Rights of Transgender People and Gender Affirmation Practices in Armenia” were presented, conducted by Pink and Socioscope NGOs in 2024-2025. The meeting addressed the healthcare and social experiences of trans people, including the decision-making process regarding gender affirmation, hormone replacement therapy, surgery-related issues, interactions with healthcare institutions, and barriers within the healthcare system, as well as the needs of trans people and available support mechanisms.

The discussion focused on the research findings and the issues revealed during interviews. Recommendations to relevant state bodies, public institutions, and international organizations were presented, based on international standards and best practices of legal gender recognition. In addition, a dialogue took place among stakeholders, professionals, representatives of civil society, state institutions, and international organizations. The participants also discussed the challenges faced by professionals, limited resources, and existing legal gaps, and sought ways to coordinate efforts to address the healthcare challenges of trans people and ensure their dignified lives and full realization of rights.
The research and the event were carried out with the financial support of the New Democracy Fund.
